Inspired by the #BLM and #ENDSARS movements during the pandemic, Nigerian-Austrian rap group GAS confronts the realities of police profiling and immigrant experiences in European society through their art. The song gives voice to the stories we and our peers are constantly “bin thru,” shedding light on the frequent discrimination faced by the African diaspora.
This raw and urgent narrative resonates deeply with those navigating identity and systemic bias, offering a compelling lens on social injustice. For those of us living these realities, it is more than just art—it is a reflection of the struggles we endure and a testament to the resilience of the diaspora in contemporary “Fort Europa”. The Austria based collective, creates their own unique sound inspired by their native tongues and idols like Pop Smoke and the UK Hip Hop scene.

Set within a fenced basketball court, the editorial photography captures GAS in their favorite habitat—a space that blurs the line between freedom and confinement. The court, a familiar refuge, doubles as a powerful symbol of systemic barriers, giving the illusion of incarceration while highlighting the group’s lived experiences and unyielding spirit in Voralberg locally also known as Xiberg.
